A financial plan is the key to a confident financial future.

I have worked in this industry for over 15 years and continue to see that people don’t have a plan – either they save because they are supposed to or put it off.

Goals, like saving for retirement, being able to take care of yourself after your working years, and planning for what happens when you are gone, are dismissed as being so long off.

After seeing this pattern repeatedly, I knew I’d found my calling:

To be the inspiration for people to have a path to a successful financial future.

Most people don’t know how to start. It may seem overwhelming or hard to understand. That’s where I come in, I make it easy for you.

Why I am suited to help you:

As a former teacher, I know that educating people on how to manage their money, plan for future goals and establish good savings habits are the key factors to a successful financial plan.

A strong plan can lead to a successful retirement, empower you to make good financial decisions, and give you confidence knowing you will be prepared for any surprises that may suddenly impact you.

My areas of focus:

  • Retirement Planning for Educators, Families, and Individuals
  • Investment Management
  • Company Retirement Plans
  • Business succession plans

Let’s Start Your Plan

About Me:

In 2004, I began my career as Financial Advisor working with Waddell & Reed and now own Consilium Financial, an independent advisory services firm through LPL Financial.

I graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in Secondary Ed and History and truly enjoyed educating kids. This is where my desire to help teachers understand their retirement started from.

Giving back is important to me. I’ve been involved with many different Non-Profit organizations in Whatcom County over the years including the WCYSA Soccer Board, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Board (President for 3 years) and the Junior Achievement Board.

In my spare time you can find me playing soccer, running, hiking in the woods, and spending time with my wife Renee, my son Tristan and my daughter Kenzie.

With regard to the markets;

“Declines are temporary, gains are permanent.” - Nick Murray

The question is, how long is temporary?

Younger clients have time on their side and can out-last longer periods of investment decline. However, as you approach and enter retirement, one of the biggest hurdles you can face is a substantial decline in the markets.

Are You Nearing Retirement?

I specialize in working with clients that are nearing or entering retirement. I tailor investment and planning recommendations to your stage of life as well as traditional risk tolerance measures. I aim to help you balance downside protection with continued growth to support your retirement goals.

When the time comes to shift your focus from accumulating wealth to preserving and distributing it, I will help you do this efficiently to maximize your retention while supplementing your retirement income.

Ready to Talk

About Me:

My career in Financial Services started in 1979 when I established the Degraaff Insurance Agency in Lynden. During this time, I also served on the board of directors for Grange Insurance Association in Seattle.

In looking for opportunities to better serve my clients, and provide advice beyond insurance, I was inspired to take the Certified Financial Planner course. I earned the CFP® mark in 1999. Through this certification, with its rigorous education and experience requirements, I gained the knowledge to help my clients look at the big picture and take the steps needed to pursue their financial goals.

I have been a Financial Advisor for over 20 years and truly enjoy what I do.

If you are ready to take a step forward, give me a call, I would be happy to help.

I was born and raised in Whatcom County near Lynden, graduating from Lynden High School. I earned my BA from Washington State University and am a lifelong loyal Coug.

In my spare time I enjoy fishing and spending time with my wife and family, especially our 9 grandkids.

Investing in your future shouldn’t be complicated.

Your 30’s to 50’s are the busiest time of your life. These are the years when you have the most impactful decisions to make regarding your finances and the least amount of time to dedicate to researching them.

Though you can make all those decisions, having a financial professional as a partner can help take the stress off making them all on your own.

I’m here to help you achieve balance between your future dreams, aspiring career, and quality family time, so you can live your best life now and in the future.

Let’s have a conversation about what’s on your mind!

When can I retire? I want to see the big picture and know I’m on track.

I’ve changed my career; how does that impact my goals?

Am I missing anything important? I’m ready to double-check.

Where do I start? I want to organize and save more for my future.

I passionately believe that no matter what stage of life you are in, you can focus your goals and define a path to a confident financial future.

About Me:

I began my career in finance 16 years ago as a bank teller and know what it’s like to start small.

In the beginning I found it challenging to save for the future because there were so many areas that needed my attention. I was able to focus my goals and create a plan to follow. Adjusting that plan over the years has broadened my experience and allowed me to grow into the financial professional I am today.

Through my life I have been a professional photographer running a satisfying small business, an investment property owner, a house flipper, a personal banker and loan officer helping people buy and build their dream homes.

I’ve learned that it’s not about finding a single strategy that you stick with forever, it’s about adapting your strategy as life changes occur. I truly understand this, and it would be my pleasure to discuss your future with you and help you find an investment strategy that fits whatever life phase you are in now.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband Ryan and son Scott. We have grown up here, and truly love living in the Pacific Northwest. We take advantage of every opportunity to go boating, camping, and hiking many of the local trails. Though a lover of the great outdoors, on cold or rainy days you will likely find me playing with my sourdough starter and filling the house with the delicious scent of fresh baked bread.

Let’s Talk

About Me:

I grew up near Seattle then moved to Bellingham to attend Western Washington University where I earned my degree in Business Administration/Finance. I was lucky enough to land a store management position just out of college and began my first life selling shoes. Between the store and playing soccer, I met many friends and great Whatcom County folks, including many of you!

After tiring of retail hours, I enjoyed my time with two local companies working in customer service, program management and sales support roles. Much of that time was spent learning systems and migrating to new ones. That experience helped us all transition from Waddell & Reed to LPL!

Outside the office I have spent time volunteering on homeowner, soccer, and PTA boards, typically as Treasurer.

In my free time I enjoy playing soccer, hiking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family including my husband and two teenagers.
